However, just over twelve months on from that motor show the Japanese manufacturer has managed to turn that model into a new Honda V4 motorcycle that is set to take the world by storm.

The new Honda V4 was shrouded in secrecy from the very beginning, with many claiming that it was to be a new V4 style superbike to rival the Aprilia V4 that had just been released. The configuration of a V engine has certain benefits to it, including the reduction in size needed to fit the engine, whilst also providing better traction out of the corners over the more aggressive inline four configurations.

However, after the rumour mill stopped turning the Japanese factory finally decided to release some details about the new Honda, which would instead provide the touring community with a new motorbike to rival the likes of BMW who at present have the touring sector sown up.

The new Honda has been tipped to revolutionise the market with a new automatic gearbox making riding a much simpler experience for the touring generation. Although there doesn't seem to be a specific age limit, the touring bikes seem to be more reserved for elderly riders who prefer comfort over speed.

Initially Honda claimed that the new machine would make a significant impact upon the market, similar to that experienced by the Fireblade back in 1992. We could make this a very short review. If you're a Ducatista and are into big power, you'll probably fall in love with the Streetfighter. This bike is an animal – both its general nature and its ferocity when hard on the gas.

We already got our ya-yas out on the high-end S model Streetfighter earlier this year when we hammered it around the marvelous Ascari Circuit in Spain at its press introduction. It certainly impressed us on the track, but what we didn't yet know is how well the new Duc works in the wide-ranging conditions on the street. We also needed to find out if the base Streetfighter is also worthy of our Italian bike rapture.

At $14,995, the standard Streetfighter retails for $4,000 less than the upmarket S version, and by doing so it goes without trick Ohlins suspension, Ducati Traction Control and some carbon fiber bits. Also, cast-aluminum wheels replace the lighter forged hoops on the S.

The Ducati Streetfighter is ready to take on all naked sportbike competitors.


Regardless, the base Streetfighter will never be mistaken for anything ordinary. The 1099cc V-Twin engine is in an identical state of tune as the S, and both bikes share brick-wall Brembo radial-mount brakes and a single-sided aluminum swingarm. Lightweight (and spendy) magnesium is used for the clutch and cylinder-head covers and the headlight bracket.

The LED position lights underneath the headlight are meant to mimic the headlights on the 1198 superbike model.

The Streetfighter experience begins even before inserting its key. It looks downright menacing sitting cocked left on its sidestand, although it's a bit dense and cluttered, especially compared to the tidier air-cooled Monster lineup. It's not exactly what we'd describe as beautiful, but its stripped-down appearance of industrial art gives it a real sense of purpose and machinery-ness.

New, compact switchgear includes a fighter pilot's “trigger catch” that covers the starter button until you're good and ready to fire up this Italian missile. On the downside, the sharp-edged and plasticky controls feel cheap, especially the turn signal switch, which is unbecoming for an expensive toy such as this.

Once triggered into life, the liquid-cooled V-Twin emits a burly rumble through a pair of stacked muflers that portends near-Superbike power production. We brought our bike down to legendary tuner Carry Andrews' Hypercycle Speed Center where it spat out 133.2 roaring ponies at 9800 rpm. Combined with a pavement-rippling 72 ft-lbs of torque, this is a contender for the most powerful naked sportbike on the planet. MV Agusta's latest Brutale may come close, but we haven't been able to test one yet.

To get rolling, you'll have to endure a heavy clutch pull and a slightly grabby dry clutch, but from then on out, the Streetfighter offers an adrenaline-soaked yee-haa! ride. We whine about this only because getting the proper amount of preload is critical to a bike's handling performance, and it really shouldn't be this laborious.

In short the Two Brothers M-5 Exhaust for the SV650 sounds orgasmic. I installed the carbon fiber can and the look of it compared to other CF cans is far superior. Park it next to a M4 CF can and you'll notice the difference right away. M4, the seemingly most popular brand for the SV's, makes a very dingy looking CF can and it doesn't seem to have the lines the Two Bros does. Installation isn't too bad and once you take off the stock can you realize how light the Two Bros' is. Like most, I started my bike prior to installing the new can...loud. Once the new can was on, the bike was still loud but that harsh sound had been soothed and massaged quite a bit into what a true V-Twin sportbike SHOULD sound like.
Now...I've wanted a Ducati for a LONG time. I love the SV but who doesn't like the way a Duc sounds? I had been trying to emulate the sound but now that I've put this can on I almost want to say I like the sound of the SV a bit more. I have a friend with the Monster 800 and arrow exhaust. I brought the bike over and he was jealous of the sound it was putting out. I've had people come up and comment on how nice the bike sounds as well as a guy the other day ride by with a 1198 and dual termignoni exhaust, slow down, check out the bike/pipe and give me a thumbs up...and then he dissapeared in a cloud of dust.

I've put about 3,000 miles on since I installed the exhaust and here are some pros/cons:
- Sounds amazing...but its also very loud. I wouldnt want to ride on the freeway, etc without earplugs. Noise however at cruising speed is negligible...this was helpful on my road trip. They do make tips that help reduce added noise but who wants that :)
- I get much more notice now when in traffic or splitting lanes. Obviously a great thing but you also run the risk of getting the wrong kind of attention such as a cop, etc if you're going too fast
- The finish on the exhaust tip isn't too durable. I had my saddle bags on backwards and the edge of one rubbed on the tip of the exhaust. The gold finish was rubbed of of that one section.
- You'll have to repack the exhaust at some point
- Looks are far better than most other exhausts on the market
- The mid pipe and other hardware look like they are of better quality than other brands.

Overall, I'd absolutely buy another Two Bros can for any other bike I purchase.

EDIT: I've finally uploaded the videos. The problem is that I am using the video function on my camera. Now its not terrible but it doesn't capture sound well. It seems to cancel out all of the higher frequency noise the Two Bros can produces so in the VIDEOS it seems MUCH less loud than stock...that is the complete opposite. The Stock pipe is whisper quiet in comparison. Sorry for the poor videos.

Despite changeable weather on the first day of testing in Jerez, Nicky Hayden completed some important set-up work on his Desmosedici GP9 machine.

The 2006 MotoGP World Champion continued to make progress in his adaptation to the bike and Bridgestone tyres but will be looking to make the most of his final day of preseason testing, which takes place here tomorrow.

"We were lucky today because it looked like the weather was going to be a disaster," commented Hayden, who was ninth fastest with a lap clocked in 1’40.987. "This morning we decided to go out and do some laps anyway just to check the performance of the wet tyres on a damp track because we won’t have any intermediates this year."

"When it dried out in the afternoon we found that the bike had improved in some areas but there are other things we really need to work on. We’ll speak to Filippo Preziosi this evening, analyse the data and try to do much better tomorrow because it would be nice to be pushing near the front before we go to Qatar."

My wife Nancy and I Have started this blog to share our Harley Trips.
In September 08 we took the Harley to Houghton Lake, Mi. We stayed at a hotel with an indoor water park. We went to the Firemen’s Monument up by Roscommon , MI. Photos below are from the Monument.






We even found one of Nancy’s
relatives on the wall from Utica, MI.



On our way home we left the lake and went down to Bay City, MI. And then around Saginaw Bay on route 25 over to the shore line of Lake Huron and down to home.

Its winter now so we put the Harley to bed. Hope to get it out soon.
This spring we hope to take a weekend trip back up the shore line of lake Huron check out all the Light House’s we can.
