Will Mahindra to Sym Cevalo in India?

Taiwanese two-wheeler manufacturer SYM will show its new bike – the SYM Cevalo 125 – at the EICMA show in Milan, Italy, next month. The company already manufactures the XS125 and Wolf 125 bikes, and the Ceval0 125 will be positioned at the top end of SYM’s 125s line-up.

Given the erstwhile Kinetic Motor’s connection with SYM, the Cevalo could be interesting in the Indian context. Since M&M has now taken over Kinetic and is currently selling scooters based on SYM machines, the company could possibly look at launching the Ceval0 125 in India.

The 125cc segment is one of the largest motorcycle segments in India and sooner or later Mahindra Two-wheelers would want to get into that segment. And with its contemporary styling, SOHC, 4-valve, air-cooled, fuel-injected, 15bhp, 125cc engine, and simple chassis and suspension components, the SYM Cevalo could be the right bike for M&M, with which they can step into the 125cc bikes segment in the country.

Over the next few months, it will be interesting to see how M&M leverages the partnerships which Kinetic had with companies like SYM, Hyosung and Italjet, and whether Mahindra Two-wheelers can take on Hero Honda, Suzuki, Bajaj and TVS etc in the scooters and entry-level bikes segments.
