Altered Chrome Bike 1

Chopper customization shops are a dime a dozen. But where do you go when you want to pimp out your sportbike? In our search to find the hottest sportbike customizers in the U.S., all roads led us in one direction: to Altered Chrome.

The “Death Dealer” (pictured above)

Located in Olathe, Kansas, Altered Chrome hit the scene in 2002, when Brian Johnson’s first custom bike put his self-started company on the map. The bike was a 2001 Suzuki GSXR 1000 named “Death Dealer,” which drew inspiration from Harley style as well as some of the custom bikes Brian had seen at trade shows throughout his life. He combined the best of the best to create the “Death Dealer,” which sports carbon fiber body panels, NOS, full body spikes, custom made wheels, a custom swing arm, and a paint job that would sooner be found on a Harley than a streetbike.

Brian’s designs continue to sport the same mean look as his original bike. It’s been said that the design motif could be called “Dungeons and Dragons.” We disagree. Altered Chrome’s designs are a lot cooler.

The Ducati

Recently, Altered Chrome flipped the switch on the bike world with its custom Ducati. Before Brian got to this one, no one dared tear apart a Ducati for customization. Originally this bike was a 748cc, but Brian added power and size to the rig to make it 998cc.

As the first Fat Tire Ducati, with 300mm tires, Brian had to custom build the chassis. And to outdo the infamous Ducati swing arm, he teamed up with the famous Harley builder, Frank Patterson (from MC Works). With a few extra touches for aesthetics, including Brian’s signature “dark side” paint job, this bike has been turning heads since it hit the streets.

Whether you’re looking for a custom chain guard or a whole new look for your bike, Altered Chrome has been known to hook it up.
